For the longest time, I’ve been thinking about starting a new blog. And for the longest time, I kept getting in my own way by overthinking what I would write about, how much work it would take to keep it up and research the topics, and so on. Is that something you’ve done before? Overthink an idea until you talk yourself out of doing it? It’s OK – I’m sure we all have.
Well, one night a few days ago, as I lay my head on my pillow before bed, I had an epiphany; an idea.
Earlier in the day, my wife Catherine and I were chatting about our plans to do a massive direct mail marketing campaign to ramp up her business in the 2015 year. Specifically, we were debating which methods of means of printing the envelopes and letters would be the most cost effective and time efficient. Our marketing plan accounts for sending over 400 direct mail pieces a month. Knowing that our printing needs were about to seriously ramp-up, we realized that our current printer setup just wasn’t cutting it; the HP printer just sucks down the ink like it is going out of style, even when not in use (*sigh). And the laser printer we have is slow and only prints black and white.
Naturally, I took to Google and did a search: “what is the best printer for real estate agents?” After a few clicks, I ended up reading a forum post from an agent asking the exact same question and found a response that sounded promising (the person sounded like they knew what they were talking about). This response praised a particular model of Epson and recommended that other folks also get a continuous ink system (CIS). Brilliant. I, like you, despise paying for ink. A CIS sounds like a great way to save on ink and not have to deal with the hassle of refillable cartridges.
Flash forward to my pre-dream moment of clarity. It dawned on me: why don’t I make a blog that shares the best of everything there is to offer for the two million plus u.s.-based real estate agents? I’m going to share everything from the best products to use as an agent, to the best shoes to wear door-knocking, to the best Facebook ad to use for hyperlocal lead generation. After all, I have devoted the last five years of my life to researching, testing, trying, failing, succeeding, and forging my way through all sorts of real estate marketing. To top it off, I have over ten years of real-world experience in the high-tech software community, building software products for some amazing companies.
This website is allowing me to do a few things that I’ve been DYING to do for the past year. Things like:
- Talk openly and freely about my experiences in real estate
- Share the lessons that I’ve learned in setting up my own real estate business, as expensive and difficult those lessons may have been!
- Save other real estate agents TIME, MONEY, HEADACHES, MADNESS and all of the other sorts of negatives you might be dealing with which are stopping you from absolutely crushing your goals

In just a few days, I managed to secure a great domain, hook up the web hosting, and find a great looking theme with plenty of functionality to expand with my needs. And after a solid day’s work designing a basic logo and configuring WordPress, here I am; making my dreams come true. It’s all starts here with this very first post.
And I have to say, it feels great.
So, what is the best blog for real estate agents?!
I’m looking forward to checking the traffic in a year and reading through the tens, dare I say, hundreds of blog posts and reflect on how it all started this one night, in my apartment, sitting on the couch next to my beautiful wife and fluffy dog.
